James A. Feldman, MD, MPH, FACEP

Dr. Feldman is a Doctor of Medicine with over 40 years of experience in emergency medical care as a practicing physician and academic. He is a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians and has received certifications from the National Board of Medical Examiners, American Board of Internal Medicine, and American Board of Emergency Medicine.

Dr. Feldman has spent nearly 40 years as an Attending Physician in emergency medicine at Boston City Hospital (BCH), Boston University Hospital and Boston Medical Center (BMC). During that time, Dr. Feldman has also served as President of the Massachusetts College of Emergency Physicians (MACEP) and Chair of the Committee on Medical Services of the Massachusetts Medical Society (MMS).

As a professor of emergency medicine at Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM), Dr. Feldman has taught on the topics of clinical medicine and emergency medicine and served as an emergency medicine faculty advisor to numerous graduates of BUSM. In addition, Dr. Feldman has contributed to graduate instruction and student advising at the Boston University School of Public Health, Boston College School of Nursing, and Brandeis University School for Social Policy and Management.  

Dr. Feldman is a Senior Investigator in the Department of Emergency Medicine at BUSM. His research interests include pre-hospital emergency medical care, acute cardiac ischemia, cocaine-induced cardiac ischemia, and public health. Dr. Feldman has published approximately 70 peer-reviewed articles in medical journals including, but not limited to, the New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of the American Medical Association, Annals of Emergency Medicine, Academic Emergency Medicine, Annals of Internal Medicine, and Chest. In addition, Dr. Feldman has contributed to several book chapters and published multiple case reports, letters, and editorials on the topic of emergency medicine.

Dr. Feldman has been the Chair of the Boston Medical Center/Boston University Medical Campus Institutional Review Board (IRB) Panel Blue and member of the IRB Executive Committee at BUMC for over 15 years. He was a Certified IRB Professional (CIP) by the CIP Council of the Public Responsibility in Medicine and Research (PRIM&R).

Dr. Feldman has received multiple teaching and academic awards including BCH/BMC Outstanding Faculty, Chair’s Award from BUSM, the Pinnacle Award from MACEP, the Mark E. Weinstein MD award for contributions to regional emergency medical services and the Grant V. Rodkey MD award from MMS. Dr. Feldman has also been honored as a Distinguished Senior Reviewer by the Annals of Emergency Medicine and by the American Journal of Emergency Medicine for making an Outstanding Contribution in Reviewing.
